Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Parents as Teachers (PAT) Educator to join our team at the Crawford County R-II School District. The Parents as Teachers program is designed to provide early childhood education and support services to parents of young children to promote healthy child development and school readiness. As a PAT Educator, you will work directly with parents to empower them with the knowledge and resources they need to support their child's development from infancy through kindergarten entry.

 

Reports to: Elementary Principal

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct home visits to families enrolled in the Parents as Teachers program, providing personalized support and education based on the needs of each family.
  2. Assess the developmental needs of children and provide age-appropriate activities and resources to enhance their growth and learning.
  3. Assist parents in understanding child development milestones and how to promote their child's physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development.
  4. Offer guidance and support to parents on topics such as positive parenting techniques, health and safety practices, nutrition, and early literacy.
  5. Collaborate with community resources and agencies to connect families with additional support services as needed.
  6. Maintain accurate records of home visits, assessments, and parent interactions using the designated data management system.
  7. Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in early childhood education and family support.
  8. Engage in regular communication with program supervisors and team members to ensure coordinated and effective service delivery.
  9. Promote the Parents as Teachers program within the community and recruit eligible families to participate.
  10. Adhere to program guidelines, policies, and procedures to ensure high-quality service delivery and compliance with state and federal regulations.

 

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in early childhood education, child development, social work, or a related field; OR
  2. A two-year associate degree or two-year certificate program in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, OR Nursing and demonstrated ability in working with young children and their parents; OR
  3. Sixty college hours and two years of successful experience in a program working with young children and their parents; OR
  4. Five years of successful, experience in a program working with young children and their parents; AND
  5. Successful completion of Department of Elementary and Secondary Education approved training and experience.
  6. Experience working with young children and families, preferably in a home visiting or family support program.
  7. Knowledge of child development principles and best practices in early childhood education.
  8. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport and build trusting relationships with diverse families.
  9. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  10. Cultural competency and sensitivity to the needs of families from diverse backgrounds.
  11. Proficiency in computer applications and experience with data management systems preferred.
  12. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  13. Must pass a background check and other screening requirements.

 

Job Requirements and Expectations

  1. 30-35 office hours per week (hourly rate based on classified salary schedule)

    3. Weekly playgroups (30 total required annually)
    4. Visiting early childhood facilities
    5. General school activities (including but not limited to school activities and events, staff meetings, parent-teacher conferences, all incoming kindergarten events, and representation in the community)
  2. 5-7 family visits per week
    1. $70 per regular visit
    2. $90 per high-needs visit
  3. 4 special events (1 per quarter)
